The obverse side of this 2007 1 Euro Greek coin features a reproduction of an antique tetradrachma from Athens about 490 BC, showing an owl, Athene noctua, the symbol of goddess Athena, with also the face value and encircled by the twelve stars of Europe.  Athena was patron of the crafts, wisdom and battle. She became the patron goddess of the city of Athens, in a competition with Poseidon.

A map of Western Europe, next to the face value, shows the European continent without borders on the reverse side.

It's a fun coin to have.
